Nikos Soukos

Director, AMPL Lab, Forsyth Institute, Boston

Nikos Soukos earned the Dental degree from the University of Athens and a Masters of Science degree in Experimental Oral Pathology from the University of London. He was awarded a PhD from the University of Munich. He has worked as a researcher in the field of Photomedicine in the Eastman Dental Institute, London and in the Wellman Laboratories of Photomedicine, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. He joined the Forsyth Institute in 2002 where he founded and directs the AMPL.

Xiaoqing Lucy Song

Research Associate

Xiaoqing Song attended the Ningxia Medical College in China, where she earned the Medical Degree. She was awarded MS degrees from the Xi'an Medical University, Chinaand the Rivier College, Nashua, NH in Medicine and Computer Science respectively. She has worked as a physician-in-charge and lecturer in the Department of Pediatrics, The First Clinical Hospital, Xi'an Medical University. She joined The Forsyth Institute in 2001 and AMPL in 2007. She is currently working on various projects regarding the photodestruction of oral bacteria.

Mark Young

MMSc student

Mark Young is a graduate of the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry where he earned a D.D.S. degree in June of 2006. He also did his undergraduate work at the University of the Pacific. Currently, he is a first year resident in the Postdoctoral Endodontic program at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He joined AMPL in 2006.

Judy Chen

MMSc student

Judy Chen graduated with a D.D.S. from Columbia University, Dental and Oral Surgery School at New York in 2006. She received a B.S. from Boston College in 2002 in Biochemistry. She is currently a first-year resident in the Postdoctoral Endodontic program at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. She joined AMPL in 2006.

Helen Youm

MMSc student

Helen Youm graduated with a D.M.D. from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 2006. She received a B.S. in Neurobiology from the University of Washington (Seattle, WA) in 2002. Currently, Helen is a first year resident in the Postdoctoral Endodontics program at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, and joined AMPL in the fall of 2006.

Joshua Dunham

Research Fellow

Joshua Dunham is returning part time to the Forsyth from MassGeneral where he spent time developing a prototype for an advanced non-contact multichannel fluorescence molecular tomography imaging station, and various algorithms used to coregister the optical data with traditional imaging modalities such as CT and MRI. He is currently working on low level phototherapy of periodontal disease.

Fiza Singh

MMSC Student

Fiza Singh graduated with a D.D.S. from New York University College of Dentistry, New York in 2007. She did her undergraduate work in India. Currently, she is a first-year resident in the Post Doctoral Endodontic program at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. She joined AMPL in 2008.

Raymond Ng

MMSC Student

Before his career in dentistry, Dr. Raymond Ng studied law at the University of London, UK, and got his first law degree in 1985, and then his Master of Law in 1986. After he was called to the Canadian Bar and obtained his licence as a lawyer in 1988, he went on to study dentistry at the University of Toronto and got his D.D.S. in 1993. Thereafter he practiced general dentistry for another fourteen years. As his main interest is in endodontics, and for the best interest of his patients, Dr. Ng decided that he should go back to school and specialize in endodontics. At present Dr. Ng is pursuing his endodontic specialty program and Master of Medical Science at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine.

Despoina Papamanou

RESEARCH FELLOW

Despoina Papamanou is a graduate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, where she earned the Dental degree in November 2007. Currently, she is working as a research fellow on various projects concerning the use of phototherapy and photodynamic therapy for targeting oral infection. She joined AMPL in spring of 2008. .

Chitrang B. Patel

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Chitrang Patel is an undergraduate sophomore, pre-dental student majoring in Biology at Northeastern University. Currently, he is working as a research assistant on various projects related to photodynamic therapy of oral infectious diseases. He joined AMPL in May 2008.

Lawrence K. Yu

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Lawrence Yu is an undergraduate sophomore majoring in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University. Currently, he is working as a research assistant on various projects related to photodynamic therapy of oral infectious diseases. He joined AMPL in May 2008.

Tom C. Pagonis

Visiting Scientist, Clinical Instructor, Advanced Graduate Education in Endodontics, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston

Tom Pagonis earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and Master's of Science degree in Public Health from the University of Minnesota. After completing a residency in general dentistry, he entered the postgraduate endodontics program at Columbia University and was awarded a Certificate in Endodontics. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Journal of Endodontics. He is a faculty member of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and is a guest lecturer at Columbia University, College of Dental Medicine. His research interests include endodontic microbiology and disinfection.
